Two children follow horse tracks along a sunny forest path near a cottage, with white fur on a branch and a white horse among the trees.

Mia is eight years old. Her brother, Leo, is ten. They are in their new house. The house is small, but it is nice. It is near a forest.

“Are you happy here?” Leo asks.

“Yes, I am,” Mia says. “But the forest is big. Are there animals in it?”

“I think so,” Leo says. “Let’s go and see.”

The next morning, the sky is blue. Mia and Leo are ready to explore. Their mother is at the door.

“Stay together,” she says. “And be home before lunch.”

“We will!” they say.

The forest is quiet. The trees are tall, and the air is cool. Mia and Leo walk on a small path.

Then Leo stops. “Look! What are these?”

There are tracks in the soft ground.

“They are horse tracks,” Mia says.

Leo looks around. “But there are no horses near our house.”

A few steps away, Mia sees something on a low branch. It is a piece of white fur.

“The tracks are here, and the fur is here,” she says. “Maybe it is a unicorn!”

Leo smiles. “A unicorn? Are you sure?”

“No,” Mia says. “But it is possible. Let’s find it!”

The tracks go deeper into the forest. Mia and Leo follow them to a small stream. The water is clear. On the other side, there are more tracks.

“It is close!” Mia whispers.

Behind the trees, there is a white shape. Mia’s eyes are wide.

“Is that the unicorn?”

The white shape moves. It is a horse! Its coat is white, and its long hair is soft. But there is no horn on its head.

“Oh,” Mia says. “It is not a unicorn.”

The horse is calm. A woman walks out from behind a tree.

“Hello!” she says. “This is Snow. She is my horse. Our farm is on the other side of the forest.”

Mia pets Snow’s neck. “She is beautiful.”

Leo looks at his sister. “She is not a unicorn, but she is wonderful.”

Mia smiles. “Yes, she is. And now we have a new friend.”

When Mia and Leo are home, their mother asks, “How is the forest?”

“It is full of surprises,” Mia says.

At home, their mother asks, “How was the forest?”

“It was beautiful,” Mia says. “The trees were tall, and the stream was clear.”

“Was there a unicorn?” their mother asks.

“No,” Leo says. “There was a white horse. Her name is Snow, and she is our new friend.”
